Traditional Nara Craft “Nara Brush” Making Experience Event! Fairfield by Marriott Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi

On Sunday, April 12, Fairfield by Marriott Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi will host a Nara brush-making experience event for staying guests. This event is a collaboration with “Nara Fude Tanaka”, which specializes in the traditional craft of “Nara Brushes” from Nara City, Nara Prefecture.

Nara brushes boast a history of approximately 1,200 years, beginning in 806 when Kūkai brought brush-making techniques back from Tang China. At this event, we invite traditional craftsman Chiyomi Tanaka as our instructor. You will observe the delicate brush-making process up close and personally experience the final steps: “shaft insertion” and “tip finishing”.

Made entirely by hand without any machinery, Nara brushes embody the skill and heart of craftsmen. Why not take this opportunity to discover this precious traditional craft of Nara and embark on a journey to explore Nara Prefecture more deeply?
