Experience Akahada-yaki, a Traditional Craft of Nara. Fairfield by Marriott Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi

On Sunday, March 15th, Fairfield by Marriott Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi will hold a hands-on Akahada-yaki pottery experience event for staying guests. The event will feature Mr. Shozan Oshio, a master potter from the Nara Prefectural Traditional Craft “Akahada-yaki,” as the instructor.

Akahada-yaki is a traditional pottery designated as a Nara Prefectural Traditional Craft. Its production flourished during the Azuchi–Momoyama period, particularly for tea ceremony utensils. Known as one of the Enshu Seven Kilns, Akahada-yaki is characterized by its distinctive and elegant overglaze decoration known as Nara-e and its warm, refined texture.

In this event, you will learn the hand-building technique directly from Mr. Shozan Oshio, the fourth-generation master potter of an Akahada-yaki kiln. While preserving traditional firing methods using a climbing kiln, you can enjoy a hands-on experience, offering an opportunity to connect with Nara’s living craft heritage.

Why not enrich your trip to the Tenri area by experiencing Nara's traditional crafts at this event?
